Commentary : Suicide bombers attack in top security zone

Media reports say that suicide bomber blew himself up near Army house in Pindi killing 8 people and injuring 22 persons.
It is very alarming that these bombers are striking our top security zones with ease. The government should reprimand security agencies for their failure to nab the culprits. These incidents have frightened people and they are [...]

Commentary : Pakistan militants agree to ceasefire

According to reports, armed supporters of Maulana Fazlullah, the cleric, who launched an FM radio station and started  a Taliban-style Islamisation campaign , has agreed to a ceasefire.
Pakistani government claimed that they had killed 60 militants in fighting Sunday. However, cleric’s spokesman disputed government’s claim and said that only five people had been killed.
How can [...]

Commentary: Pakistan’s Musharraf needs Bhutto, and U.S. may too

ROBERT NOVAK thinks that Benazir Bhutto can be a bulwark against Islamic extremism. He opines that al-qaeda and Taliban is against Benazir Bhutto and is creating trouble for her.
Mr. NOVAK , she is the one who formed Taliban. History tells us that she can make deals with militants and terrorists. She made a deal with [...]

Talk to Taliban

NATO and the US-led coalition have failed to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan. Mounting civilian causalities are creating resentment among Afghans. Highways and cities are not safe. Taliban suicide bombers have forced well-armed NATO and US-led Coalition troops hide inside their bases.
In my opinion, peace will never come to Afghanistan unless the US and [...]

European nations, Russians and Chinese should back US sanctions

I agree with Dr. Rice that a nuclear weapon in the hands of Iranian Mullahs will destabilize the Middle East. Since 1979, they have been exporting terror and inciting their co-religionists in Sunni dominated countries to destabilize these countries.
International community will have to support US sanctions against Iran to force it to stop [...]

US support for BB

BB and her close confidents know that open support by the US does not go well with Pakistani public in context of elections or otherwise. The Americans are not naive to ignore this fact but yet they keep pounding on rhetoric irritating public psyche. I believe the PPP leadership has politely conveyed their subtle reservations [...]

Commentary : Militants beheaded four law enforcement men

Islamic militants beheaded four law enforcement men in Swat to avenge the deaths of their comrades. The way these poor people were killed is barbaric.
It is painful to hear that the government wants to negotiate with these barbaric people, and politician like Maulana Fazlur Rehman wants to stop the action against the militants. He has [...]

American interventionist policies

US Ambassador to Pakistan disclosed while talking to editorial board of the News, Jang, and GEO TV that the US has offered help in the investigation of the recent bomb blasts in Karachi.
I fail to understand why the US wants to embroil itself in the internal affairs of Pakistan.
In my opinion, interventionist policies will generate [...]

Pakistan : Operation against maverick , Mullah Fazlullah in Swat

Reports say that Pakistani government has launched a major operation against maverick , Maulana Fazlullah.
The government claims that they have moved in on the militants in Swat to reassert its writ over 59 villages of Matta Division. They also allege that the cleric has set-up a parallel administration.
I support government’s decision to launch operation in [...]

Commentary : Bhutto faces new death threat

Sherry Rehman, spokeswoman for the Pakistan Peoples Party, made a startling assertion in an interview that al-qaeda had threatened Ms. Bhutto’s life. She said that Ms. Bhutto’s lawyer had received a letter, which says that she would be slaughtered like ‘goat’.
In my opinion, this is a publicity gimmick. They are trying to put pressure on [...]
